On the farm

 So that the yoke does not stick to the egg shell, a mother hen turns it egg about 50 times each day.
 Baby chickens are chicks. Female chickens are pullets until they’re old enough to lay eggs and become hens. Male chickens are called roosters, cocks or cockerels, depending on the country you’re in.

 

 Chickens have full-color vision—no color-blindness here!
 A hen can lay about 300 eggs each year.
 Chickens can run at a speed of 9 mph.
 With 25 billion chickens in the world, there are more of them than any other bird species.

  • Horses can sleep both lying down and standing up.

  • A pig’s snout is an important tool for finding food in the ground and sensing the world around them.

 The proper name for a group of goats is a trip  and ..Baby goats are kids.
 Goats are great swimmers.

 Before milking machines were invented in 1894, farmers could only milk about 6 cows per hour. Today, farmers use machines to milk more than 100 cows per hour.

Cows are milked for an average of 3-4 years. A cow must have a calf in order to produce milk.Calves are fed milk until they are 8-9 weeks old. Cows drink about a bathtub full of water and eat around 40 pounds of food a day.



  • Relative to their body size, pigs have small lungs.





  • Pigs are intelligent animals.




  • Like humans, pigs are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and other animals.

  • Horses can run shortly after birth.

  • Domestic horses have a lifespan of around 25 years.

  • Horses have around 205 bones in their skeleton.


  • Because horse’s eyes are on the side of their head they are capable of seeing nearly 360 degrees at one time.

  • A young male horse is called a colt.
