It's a small world after all!

There are about eighty pyramids known today from ancient Egypt. The three largest and best-preserved of these were built at Giza at the beginning of the Old Kingdom. The most well-known of these pyramids was built for the pharaoh Khufu. It is known as the 'Great Pyramid'.  We learned how the Egyptians still today travel on camels.

The leaning Tower of Pisa is famous because it leans. Although it was designed to be perfectly vertical, it started to lean during construction. However, even without this famous characteristic, this building would still be one of the most remarkable architectural structures from medieval Europe. It stands at 60 metres and until 1990 was leaning at about a 10 degree angle. See more facts about Leaning Tower of Pisa.  (the kids kept calling it the leaning tower of Pizza Ha ha ha)  I did explain it is in Italy where they eat pizza.  Easton and Wyatt

The Mexican hat dance. We would have missed out on some of the sweetest things in life, if it hadn't been for the Mexicans, because they are the ones who gave us chocolate. And to balance that out, they also gave some of the hottest peppers known to man.
Fried grasshoppers are a favorite snack for the people of Oaxaca, a state in the south of Mexico.

We made Sombreros One of the interesting facts about Mexico city is its world famous mariachi dance and music style. The word mariachi was earlier used to denote a group of dancers who traveled from place to place performing. The term then took shape into a musical style which is now a very prominent style of music throughout the world. No official event is complete without the request for a 'mariachi'.
Mexicans have a very strong sense of family. Their whole society revolves around the concept of a strong family bond. The father is the head of the family who makes the decisions for the rest of the family. Even though mothers are highly revered, they still come only second to the father.
We are flying over the ocean.  We learned you cannot walk, ride a bike, car or train across the ocean.  We learned you can fly and take a boat.
Mexico has 31 states and Mexico city is the capital.
The currency of Mexico is the Peso.
 We did the Tooty ta!
Hundreds of dinosaur bones have been found in Northern Mexico.  Mexican children take the name of both their parents (father's last and mother's maiden) to preserve the heritage.
Mexico is the largest manufacturer of salt in the world.

Time for our African Safari - We went on a safari looking for animals.

Peyton ready to go on our safari
 We made African Drums!
  • Children ages 7 through 15 are required to attend school. Parents must pay fees for their children to attend school, even public schools. All students wear uniforms.
  • Schools in South Africa are packed with kids. In fact, some schools have two or three sessions to accommodate all the kids.
What ways can we travel around the world?
 Flying to China!
I have a great love for Asian culture.  I lived in Taiwan teaching English when I was only 19 years old.  I loved their culture, generosity and their respect.
We discovered that all children in the world like to play, have fun and sing songs.  I taught the children how to say I love you and How are you.  Ni hao ma is How are you or What's up?  Wo ai Ni is I love you!
 Jaxyn made a lantern.

Lantern Colors and Their Meanings:

  • Red: Good fortune
  • Pink: Romance
  • Peach-red: Decisions and opportunities
  • Orange: Money
  • Yellow: Success in school and/or job
  • White: Health
  • Light Green: Growth
  • Light Blue: Hoping something comes true
  • Light Purple: Idealism
Children in China also make lanterns at school and hang riddles on them.

We went home with chopsticks and Chinese yo-yos!
hinese New Year is the most important of the Chinese holidays, and is a time of feasting with the family, celebration, fireworks and gift-giving. It is a 15-day holiday, beginning on the first day of a new moon and ending with the full moon on the day of the Lantern Festival.
