Macey's field trip!

Every year we take a tour of Macey's. They are so good to us. We learn a lot about the store. Produce, deli, meat dept, flower dept, dairy, bakery, we even get to visit the upstairs.

This was at the Deli Dept. They told us how they cut meat.

At the bakery they showed us the cake decorating and how to slice bread.

Pat the florist showed us all of her pretty flowers. REMEMBER she told everyone to tell daddies to buy their mommies flowers from Macey's.

The meat dept. We were taught about different meats. What animal each came from.

The dairy dept. was fun we saw the magic doors. The children guessed what was behind the magic doors.

We were at the bakery and learned about the big hot oven and watched the cookies bake.

The bakery has a great bread slicer that cuts a whole loaf at a time and bags it.

The produce asked questions about the veggies and fruits.

I love when we have parents join us. The kids love that they can share time at preschool with you.

They gave out balloons! Rori (I had her last year in preschool, I was so happy she came to visit) Hallie, Julee, Addison, Kyler. Thanks for making efforts to get your children to and from field trips, or joining us. We had a fun day! Thank you Macey's for letting us come.

Julee had a bday and she made cute snowmen rice krispy treats.

Allie- We made calendars with each child's foot print. Next year you can do their foot print again and see if they grew.

Alexa- Emily- Allie- and Kamry - We learned about Stegosaurus. They lived during the late Jurassic period.

Brinley- a Stegosaurus is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs. With the 2 rows of plates on his back and the spiky tail.

We played "don't fall into the hot lava" We discussed how Volcono's erupted, how the hot lava and poisons and gasses that caused some dinosaurs to die.

Addison- Lizzie- Hallie- Peyton- Erupting volcanoes can pose many hazards, not only in the immediate vicinity of the eruption. Causing mudslides, earthquakes, and gases that can destroy plants, animals and even water sources. Volcanic ash can be a threat to aircraft, in particular those with jet engines where ash particles can be melted by the high operating temperature.

We read a very silly story about a new mysterious dinosaur. Ask your child if they remember the story.

Many Volcanos are dormant. This does not mean that it will never erupt. However there are many Volcano's that are called extinct Volcano's because they never will erupt again.

We made silly faces to scare the dinosaur away in our story, We also jumped up and down, We clapped our hands and we pretended to fall asleep. Finally the Dinosaur went away.

We played a fun matching game.

The children were very creative with the letter V. Surprisingly we had a great show and tell with this difficult letter.

Noah- He loves dinosaurs. He knows everything about them. I love that he corrects me when I say the names incorrectly. He also knew that a Mussaurus was a dinosaur the size of a turkey.

We sang songs called shake shake shake your head. (using the dinosaur heads)

Pterodactyl

A Pterodactyl had a wingspan of anywhere between a few inches up to over 40 feet long. Pterodactyls are believed to have flown long distances using large wings and they had above average eyesight to help them catch their prey. Paleontologist classify Pterodactyls as flying reptiles and not dinosaurs.

According to old earth scientists, Pterodactyls lived in the late Mesozoic period, about 251 to 65 million years ago (Kaylee)

Noah- Pterodactyl Diet: It was a carnivore (meat eating creature).

Brinley- Presley- Did you know that Pterodactyls did not have feathers? They had skin and their bones were hollow, this allowed them to fly without being weighed down.

Mussaurus (pronounced moo-SAWR-us) was a small, early, plant-eating dinosaur. Addison- Lizzie and Brock

Sorting Dinosaurs

No adult Mussaurus fossils have been unearthed. Only large-eyed hatchling (baby) Mussaurus have been found. They were only 9-16 inches long (18-37 cm); these are the smallest dinosaur skeletons yet found.

Jaxyn- Mussaurus was an herbivore (a plant eater). They also were known to be very fast.

DEFENSE
Mussaurus had short claws on its front and rear limbs, and weak, leaf-shaped teeth. These paltry defenses were probably not very effective against large predators, which had much bigger claws, sharper, stronger teeth, and were more powerful overall. Its best defense was to run away. Luckily they were so small they could run fast.

Scientists believe that the adult Mussaurus weighed nearly 200-250 lbs and probably about the size of a turkey. Consider this to a Diplodocus that is as large as 10 full size Elephants.

We learned that the name Mussaurus means. Mouse/ lizard.

Brontosaurus- (now called Apatosaurus) was a large, long-necked, with four legs animal with a long, whip-like tail. It is interesting because at one time it was believed that this was the largest dinosaur roaming the Earth. However Later in the 1970's a Diplodocus was discovered and a Brachiosaurus. The Diplodocus is the longest and the Brachiosaurus is the heaviest. (scientists believe)

One thing known about all "LONG neck dinosaurs" They were not very smart. They had a brain the size of a kitten. (keep in mind how big these animals are. )

Did you know that the long neck dinosaurs could not run? (well they tried but never could get very far) Their size was so large they walked slow and moved slowly.

We are having so much fun with dinosaurs. We have yet discovered the T- Rex, Fossils, (we will become Paleontology.) Triceratops and even Dinosaur Bones. Ask your children about what they have discovered. They may need help remembering the names of the dinosaurs. Thanks for all you do as parents.

Firefighters and Pilots!

We had a great time at the fire station. Chief Mike and Firfighter Matt were so great to come volunteer and teach fire safety. Kincade was chosen to try on the suit. He makes a great firefighter.

Chief Mike teaches all of us to Stop, Drop and roll when we have a fire on us. Whitney is a helper showing us how.

Ghost, Ghost where is the Ghost? We played a hide the ghost game and a number game with the ghosts.

We played a game don't fall into the haunted house. We stayed on our circles and danced around without falling off the circles. Thank you all again who came and supported our witch day. I love your little kiddos. I appreciate you parents for your support. Carnivals are this Thursday at the senior citizen bldg. 9-11 for T-Th class. 10-11 for M-W-F class and 11-12 for the M-T Th class this is class for the day.

The Month of October is Ocean Commotion time! We are discovering everything under the ocean.

Peyton and Whitney- We practiced with fish doing songs, "One two three four five... once I caught a fish alive" Ask your little one to sing this to you.

Hallie- We also counted with the fish and practiced our colors.

We went fishing for letters.

After we caught our fish we separated them into their groups and counted.

We played a fish game- Each picture depicted the item IN or OUT and the children had to decide where the IN items go and the OUT items go.

Easton and Wyatt with their octopus- Octopus have 8 legs or arms whichever you prefer. (which are actually called Tentacles) They have the sticky tentacles so they are able to hold fish to eat. They also use them to hide and suction to coral.

Easton and Garrett Ask your child if they remember what a Mammal is? Did you know a Whale and a Dolphin are both Mammals? Just like us.

Alexa painting her whale- How do you think a whale breathes? Whales breathe air like people, but through a hole on the top of their head. it is called a blowhole. All whales have one, some whales even have two.

Kamry- There are many types o whales in the ocean. Many people think an Orca "Killer whale" Is a whale. (the kind you see at Sea world) However they are actually a dolphin.

Mack painting. Beluga whales are ass big as cars. But...that is really small for a whale. Ask your child what color a beluga whale is. (White) Also have them sing Baby beluga for you.

Having fun with songs and dances.

Star fish are fascinating. We discovered how star fish move, eat and some children did not know they were really alive. Did you know they are not really a fish though? they are an echinoderm which is an animal without a backbone.

These star fish were once living and now have passed. The children loved holding them and seeing what real starfish look like.

An Edmond sea star can lose an arm and grow another.

We discovered that their are all sorts of star fish.

Inside of a star fish. did you know that Rose Sea star will eat by moving its stomach out of it's mouth.

Spiny sun star fish move only 20 ft. in 12 hours. which is actually the fastest star fish. Most stay dormant or move about 3-10 ft.in a day.

Dolphins- Did you know a group of dolphins is called a pod?

There are so many exciting Star fish or known as sea stars.

Star fish have small bristle like suctions to allow them to move and find food.

The children smelled the starfish- They still smell like the ocean with a fish smell.

Sharks- Did you know sharks have the most powerful jaws on the planet?

Our cute friend Addison brought kids sushi to share. It was so cute I could not pass up telling you all how to make this. You can see the pic. you need gummy worms (cut the gummy worms into small pieces) make rice Crispy bars and mix the gummy worms into them. next cut and make small circle like shapes and then wrap each bar with a fruit roll up. The kids LOVED them.

Sharks- Did you know a hammerhead shark has an extra wide head so it can see, smell and swim better.

Shark teeth- this was so neat to see. Every week a shark will lose an entire set of teeth. and replace them as well. This is Presley Jackson

Emily Pittman- brought the shark jaw. It was so amazing to see the rows and rows of teeth. This is a small shark jaw.

We learned the letter S this was fun we had some really great show and tells today.

" Little shark little shark let me come in " said the Big bad shark "Not by the skin on my finny fin fin" said the little fish.

There is a shark called a Goblin shark. They live at the very bottom of the ocean. Only scientists have discovered and seen them. They swim very slowly.

Kaylee and Peyton How do you think Jelly fish move? They use their tentacles in one big motion to make themselves shoot through the water.

Letter A is for Alligator! We had a lot of fun with our 5 senses this week. We learned the importance of sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing. The children discovered without senses and with them .

We learned about our ears can hear. We did a hearing dance with maracas.

What sounds to animals make?

we discovered all sorts of different Alligators. Ask your child if they remember any of the Alligator names. The american alligator roars like a lion. The black Caimen is very strong and can smell miles away. The dwarf alligator is nocturnal (ask your child if they remember what that means.) We learned about all sorts of crocodiles and alligators.

Officer Pittman showed us the tools on his belt. his flashlight, walkie talkie, bullets, gun, Mace, and even his Tazer gun. he shot lazers with it. he explained how important it is to never touch a gun. He taught the children what they should do if they find one. He also told the children about what each tool does. We are so grateful for Officer John Pittman who took time to visit our class.

We are having so much fun learning about each child in here. Having a special day for each one of them.
We were learning about Doctors- How to keep ourselves healthy. We learned about the food groups.
What do you want to be when you grow up? Each child has their own answers. Some a Fire fighter- police officer- Nurse- teacher and some Spidermans, princesses and Dora the Explorers. In school I encourage your children to be what they want to be. Be the best at what they want to be and love their job! As for the super heros, princesses and sometimes cats that are announced as their occupation they will change their minds and become something amazing!

We played a game called don't let the leprechauns catch us. We also played Change places and put balls on and had them flip them off.
They had so much fun! St. Patrick's day is a fun and exciting exploring day. We all found out that we are all part of a big rainbow and without each one of us in it we are not complete. We talked about how our classmates are important and we needed each of them to help find the gold at the end of the rainbow. Thank you parents for all sending fun green foods to share.

Cowboys. Dunes and Deserts

This month we have been discovering deserts. Gobi Desert (the cold desert) located in China and Mongolia. Great Basin Desert- The largest desert in the United states. Sahara Desert- The largest hot desert in the world. Antarctic Desert- Is the largest desert in the world. (even though it is not hot, the Antarctic desert is still a desert because it receives less than 2 inches of participation a year. Antarctic desert is the coldest desert in the world. Atacama Desert- Is located in South America. This is the driest desert in the world.
The children were asked to draw a picture of what they thought a desert looked like. Ethan- Keslee-Mckenzie and Rori

We made cactus and learned about the importance a cactus has. Cactus store water in its thick stem or trunk which feeds desert animals. The leaves on a cactus are called a pad and the pokey parts are called a spine.
Peanut butter. We are working a lot this month on counting and recognition our numbers. Have your child count things in your home.

Why do we wear hats in the desert? To keep sun off our faces so we do not sunburn. We listened to Moroccos that is the sound of a rattlesnake.

We learned about turtles. There is a Desert turtle. It has been known a desert turtle can live up to 300 years old. HATCHLINGS ARE ABOUT THE SIZE OF SILVER DOLLARS. THEIR SHELLS ARE SOFT AND COMPOSED MOSTLY OF SCUTES. FEMALE TORTOISES DO NOT PROVIDE CARE FOR THEIR YOUNG. ONLY 1 TO 5 OUT OF EVERY 100 HATCHLINGS WILL SURVIVE TO ADULTHOOD.
